We've all heard their heated rhetoric on Iran.

George Bush, Dick Cheney, other administration officials, and right wing pundits using phrases such as "imminent threat" and talking about the potential for World War III. Now we know these are just the latest in a long line of inaccurate and misleading comments -- the same type of misinformation that got us into the Iraq war.

All 16 of our nation's intelligence agencies have concluded that Iran stopped its nuclear weapons program four years ago. This finding, contained in the National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) that was released yesterday, further diminished the credibility of the President, who has a dangerous record of overstating threats.

Of course, instead of announcing a new diplomatic offensive, George Bush's response was to state, "the NIE doesn't do anything to change my opinion about the danger Iran poses to the world." Well, maybe his opinion hasn't changed, but the facts have. The President is the only person that I know who can receive a report like the NIE and believe that it's a warning signal.

I have no doubt that those cheerleading for a war with Iran will continue to do so. That's why I need your help to get the word out in your community about this development. If we can send 10,000 letters to the editor by Monday, I know it will make a real difference.

Help make sure that George Bush and his allies don't spread misinformation leading to war with Iran.

Instead of stubbornly insisting the NIE did not "change his opinion", George Bush should announce a new diplomatic surge.

George Bush used this playbook in the build-up to the war in Iraq -- and now he is trying to lay the same foundation for us to go to war in Iran. For the last seven years, we've seen this kind of misinformation coming from the White House. Our nation deserves better.

Pakistan Is The Real Danger Now!
By baghdadjoe, Dec 14, 2007 at 5:23:50 PM ET
The Bush admin has all the rhetoric right - loose nukes in the hands of terrorist extremists, etc.

But the WRONG COUNTRY. Bush has created the Iran nightmare that doesn't exist in Pakistan. Pakistan is the clear and present danger to the United States and Israel.

And Bush made that mess himself, with a really stupid and reckless foreign policy.

Not about the NIE, but the telecom immunity bill
By User from Seattle, WA, Dec 15, 2007 at 5:52:58 AM ET
Harry, to say I am disappointed does not even approach how I feel about your lack of leadership on this issue. Once again, you have given in to the right wing in presenting a bill that gives the Bush administration everything it wants--in this case, retroactive immunity for the telecom firms who were accomplices before and after the fact in illegally wiretapping and monitoring American citizens, and in the process subverting the Constitution. Your procedural explanation for introducing the Intelligence Committee's bill--crafted with input from the commissars in Dick Cheney's office, no less--is ridiculous. By agreeing to present this bill, you are siding with the Bush administration in its relentless drive to commit crimes and pass laws to protect their hides after the fact.

This is a horrible bill. I expect some principled Senate Democrats to filibuster this bill--in essence, filibustering their own party--to prevent it from coming up for consideration.

To my mind, there are only two explanations for this bill being presented: rank cowardice, or complicity with the Bush administration.

You have often spoken of "keeping your powder dry." That powder is so dry that it is dessicated and worthless. It is time for you to either learn to recognize the times when you must spend that powder in defending America, or step down and let another Democrat with the courage and the willpower to defend this country take your position as Majority Leader.

Harry, Show Us Some Cojones

Dear Senator Reid,

You are showing yourself to be a gutless weasel with the backbone of a jellyfish. You should be ashamed of your actions as the Democratic Majority Leader. You show more respect for the idiot Republican Tom Coburn than you do for the brave and true Democratic Senator, Chris Dodd. Why have you sold out to Bush and the telecoms with your parliamentary shenanigans re: retroactive immunity for the telecoms?

You and Nancy Pelosi have consistently proven yourselves to be hapless roll-overs and suck-ups to the Republican machine. Where are your balls, dude?

I used to believe that shit about you being a boxer and a "fighter." So far, all you've shown me is blowhard rhetoric, followed by abject surrender. If you're going to continue to be a political coward, please stop all of your references to Harry Truman. It's defamatory to his memory.

Sen Reid:

I came here to urge the good Senator to live up to his self-description and truly give 'em hell. But I see that it's already been said. It's hard to take you Dems seriously as an opposition party. Until you stop taking money from the corporate trough and get back to grass roots politics, and esp. grass roots fundraising, I imagine we'll see more of the same. My plea to you is to redouble the local fundraising efforts of Howard Dean and find yourself a rehab program so you can wean yourself of the addiction to Big Money.

As far as those who pillary Sen. Reid for pandering to the left, wake up and smell the brainwashing. You've been drinking the Right wing mainstream media Kool aid for far too long. Get off your back side, go travel outside this country, and get a reality check on what's going on in the world and what the US is really up to. The US is not becoming an empire, we already ARE an empire and have been for over 100 years. If you are going to back what the US does around the world, at least be honest, aware and conscious of it.

Wexler + Impeachment
By baghdadjoe, Dec 31, 2007 at 6:08:23 PM ET
We need to do much more than try to counter the "spin". We need to bring a halt to the unprecedented executive branch criminality our nation is currently suffering.

Let's protect and defend the United States. Now.
