This past weekend, my opponent Jim Talent announced his candidacy for re-election to the U.S. Senate. While he said that his announcement tour would highlight his effectiveness at changing Washington for Missouri, he spent an unprecedented amount of time and energy launching negative and baseless attacks against me.

And it's no wonder, given how little Jim Talent has accomplished for Missouri since going to Washington 14 years ago. Despite his claims of being a force for change in Washington, Talent has been nothing more than a rubberstamp for President Bush and the big special interests. Missourians don't need to look any further than his voting record to see that Washington has changed Jim Talent much more than Jim Talent has ever changed Washington.

Whether it's supporting a prescription drug plan that helps the big pharmaceutical companies more than it helps seniors or advocating for an energy bill that gives billions in subsidies to big oil at the expense of consumers and alternative energy, it's clear that Jim Talent's priorities do not lie with Missouri.

While Jim Talent's announcement tour brought him to hotel ballrooms in Missouri's eight largest cities over two days, I have already spent the last three months traveling throughout the entire state. In stops at senior and community centers in over 30 Missouri cities, I have met with local seniors to discuss the disastrous Medicare Part D program and with veterans and community members to unveil my Military Bill of Rights Plan.

Missourians from all walks of life have responded enthusiastically to my positive vision for Missouri. They are sick of the poisoned partisan politics in Washington and they are tired of taking a backseat to the big special interests. They are also beginning to see that Jim Talent is part of the problem in Washington- time and time again when he has had the chance to stand with Missouri, he has chosen the side of the big special interests instead.

Missourians deserve so much more from their U.S. Senator. It's time for a Senator on our side. That's why I'm running for U.S. Senate.
