Since only 5% ($27 billion) in the $800 billion Stimulus Bill goes towards highway and bridge construction it is estimated that the number of employees that "supposedly" will be hired (required) as a result will be 1 million nationwide, most of which are already working for the lucky firms who get the work.
That means using the exact same logic the Administration is using to show how many jobs are "created" by the current Stimulus bill, if Congress and the President had appropriated the $250 billion I keep saying should have been in the bill instead of the $27 billion in the current bill, there would be 15 million new jobs created! Considering that the amount in the current Stimulus Bill for highway construction just barely keeps the current employees in their jobs, there would actually be 14 million "NEW" jobs created verses "ZERO" in the current Stimulus Plan.
Now, wouldn't that have "Stimulated" the economy more! Plus these are real jobs for real Americans right here in America that can't be shipped overseas! What a novel idea, real job creation!
(This was extrapolated from the Florida Department of Transportation numbers since Florida is 5% of the total Stimulus money and is a good indicator of the entire county and the FDOT is very progressive.)
