I have been looking forward to this day for eight months. My friend Tim Johnson is returning to the Senate. It will be great seeing him back at work and having one more vote in the Democratic caucus.

Last week, in his first public appearance since falling ill in December, Tim showed us all his strength, character and courage. It is amazing that only eight months after surgery he is returning to his Senate schedule, including service on five committees.

In honor of his first day back in the Senate, help me welcome Tim with a contribution to his campaign by clicking here.

It's still early in the cycle, but Republicans are already on the run.

South Dakota is one of the few places where they believe they have the opportunity to pick up a seat in the Senate. Tim Johnson is incredibly popular at home, but we all know what happens when Republicans get desperate.

In 2002, the same year that Tim won reelection by just 524 votes, Republicans ran ads against Max Cleland, who lost three limbs for his country, comparing him to Osama Bin Laden. I expect, with their backs against the wall, they will try to do the same thing to Tim. We need to make sure he has the resources in place to win.
