Sharron Angle Surfaces in Yerington The Same Day Its Mayor Endorses Harry Reid
LAS VEGAS – On the same day that Sharron Angle surfaced in Yerington, the town's mayor, Doug Homestead, announced his endorsement of Senator Harry Reid in an op-ed submitted to the Mason Valley News:
“Everyone in Yerington knows our state is struggling with unemployment, foreclosures and a lagging economy. To get things back on track it is going to take strong leaders who are willing to fight, make tough decisions, and do what is right for our state. That is why I am casting my vote for Senator Harry Reid.
“The reasoning is simple - it would be disastrous for the state of Nevada, and the wellbeing of rural Nevada, to lose the steady, experienced hand of our senior United States Senator.
“While I don’t agree with everything he does and says, Sen. Reid has shown that he understands the challenges Nevadans face and he is willing to do anything to help the people he serves. A good example of that can be seen in the approximately $4 million he brought to Yerington for water and energy projects.
“I can’t say the same for Sharron Angle. She scares a lot of people, and her pledge to kill social security and not create jobs have removed any confidence people may have in her ability to carry out the duties of a U.S. Senator.
“In addition to serving as Mayor of Yerington, I work at the Hawthorne Army Depot and I know that the reason I and everyone else at the Depot still have a job is because of Senator Reid. He understands the importance of this facility and fought to keep it from being closed.
“Senator Reid has also been a strong defender of our Second Amendment right to bear arms. I fear that a Sharron Angle victory would leave us with a majority leader far more liberal than Sen. Reid. Gun owners and shooters in Nevada and around the country would rest easier with Senator Reid at the helm of the Senate.
“The choice in this election is clear. You can side with the experience and leadership that Senator Reid brings to the table, or you can side with the dangerous, radical agenda of Sharron Angle. I hope you join me in doing the right thing for Nevada and vote for Senator Reid.”
