Sharron Angle: Separation of Church & State is Not Constitutional

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Tonight, Sharron Angle emerged briefly from her underground bunker to appear on Face to Face with Jon Ralston. While Angle was generally incoherent on issues like Social Security, unemployment benefits, and her extreme and dangerous rhetoric about “2nd Amendment remedies,” she was entirely clear on one thing:

Angle literally does not believe the doctrine of Separation of Church & State is Constitutional.

Asked about testimony she gave before the state Assembly in 1995 in which she said a voucher program that didn’t provide state monies for private religious schools was “un-American” Angle had no qualms about acknowledging her belief that “the tenant of the separation of church and state is an unconstitutional doctrine.” In her testimony, Angle referred to separation of church and state a “politically correct bias wrapped in appealing language.” Which led to this exchange with Ralston:

Ralston: The Separation of Church and State arises out of the Constitution.

Angle: No, it doesn’t, Jon.

Ralston: Oh, it doesn’t?

Angle: No, it doesn’t.
