Reid Campaign Response to Angle, GOP Attacks on Hispanic Issues

Under immense heat from Hispanic community, Angle’s attacks ring hollow

LAS VEGAS – In recent days, issues of import to Nevada’s growing Hispanic community have come front-and-center in race for US Senate. With respect to remarks made yesterday by Sen. Reid that Sharron Angle and her DC handlers are attempting to exploit, the Reid campaign issued the following statement:

“Sen. Reid has long enjoyed the support of many Hispanic Republicans in Nevada and he appreciates that support. Sen. Reid’s contention was simply that he doesn't understand how anyone, Hispanic or otherwise, would vote for Republican candidates because they oppose saving teachers’ jobs, oppose job-creating tax incentives for small businesses, oppose investments in job-creating clean energy projects, and oppose the help for struggling, unemployed Nevadans to put food on the table and stay in their homes.”

“Nevadans are suffering in this economy.  Senator Reid was rightly pointing out that Republicans like Sharron Angle who oppose job-creating measures and unemployment benefits, oppose  emergency aid to save 1200 Nevada teachers, and who want to wipe out critical programs like Social Security and Medicare, are part of the problem, not part of the solution."

Angle and her handlers could not be more eager to distract attention from media coverage of her extreme and dangerous agenda for Hispanic Nevadans.

KLAS reporter Nathan Baca, who was famously made to chase Sharron Angle into a parking lot in a futile attempt to get an answer to one of his questions, reported yesterday that Sharron Angle has blacked out Nevada’s Hispanic media. This, despite the fact that Hispanic Nevadans now comprise nearly 25 percent of the state Angle had not conducted an open press availability since winning the GOP primary more then two months ago.

And while excluding Hispanic media, Sharron Angle at that same media availability pledged to her “invited guests” she’d change the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution using the loaded and xenophobic language “anchor babies.”

Worst of all, Angle has an abysmal record and an extreme agenda for the Hispanic community in general.

·         Unemployment has hit Latinos harder than the general population, but Sharron Angle says that, as a US Senator, “it's not my job to create jobs.”

·         Angle also said that as a child she performed manual labor in the service industry, which she described as jobs that “real Americans don't do.”

·         And last weekend, Angle headlined a fundraiser for a radical doctors group that claims immigrants spread leprosy.

“Sharron Angle’s extreme and dangerous agenda for Hispanic Nevadans is something she obviously wants to hide, which is why she and her allies will do or say anything to attack Sen. Reid and shift the focus from the intense heat her campaign has been under,” said Reid campaign spokesman José Dante Parra. “Despite the efforts of Republicans like Sharron Angle to change the US Constitution and block comprehensive immigration reform, Sen. Reid will continue to wake up and fight every day for the interests of Hispanic Nevadans.”
