Nevada Appeal, 10/25/2011 - As Social Security celebrates its 76th birthday, it is time for Americans to remind their leaders in Washington and those now running for president and Congress how vital this program has been for millions of middle-class families and to just leave it alone. It is just fine, thank you very much.

If one steps outside of Capitol Hill and away from campaign scare speeches, you will find most Americans know that Social Security is an economically sound and important program, funded by workers' contributions, that ensures a measure of economic security in old age.

Reno Gazette-Journal, 10/20/2011 — APAC Customer Services Inc. will hire 300 Nevadans for its call center, the company and U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., announced today.

The jobs are being transferred to the United States after being outsourced overseas. Nevada -- with the nation’s highest unemployment at 13.4 percent in August -- was chosen for its business friendly climate and a skilled workforce in customer service.

Pahrump Valley Times, 10/19/11 - Two federal programs that provide funds for Nye County, payment in lieu of taxes and Secure Rural Schools, were re-authorized for five more years, U.S. Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., announced this month.

Reid was the co-sponsor of the County Payments Reauthorization Act of 2011. He announced a bipartisan agreement on the bill.

Lahontan Valley News, 10/4/11 - The Carson City District Bureau of Land Management has given the OK for up to five geothermal energy plants in Churchill County as well as a new transmission line extending south from Fallon to Carson Lake.

The five plants could generate as much as 60 megawatts each, according to the BLM. The typical home in northern Nevada uses about 10 megawatt-hours a year. The projects, headed by Ormat Nevada Inc. and Gradient Resources, both of Reno, are expected to create 370 jobs during construction and 70 permanent jobs when the plants become operational. It's unclear when the construction will begin.

KVVU, 9/27/11 - A nearly $3.5 million grant is on its way to Boulder City to expand the Veterans Memorial Cemetery, the office of Sen. Harry Reid announced Monday.

According to Sen. Reid, the grant from the Department of Veterans Affairs will help develop 17 acres of additional land for 5,000 more burial plots.
