Reid: Nevada Gets $1M For Health Exchange

FOX 5, 7/30/10 - The Department of Health and Human Services is making $1 million available to Nevada for it to begin working toward establishing health insurance exchanges, Sen. Harry Reid announced Friday.

The exchanges were part of the health insurance reform bill that passed in March and are slated to take effect in 2014.

Through the exchanges, individuals and small businesses should have a choice of health plans that meet certain benefits and cost standards.

"By starting the development of exchanges now, we’re ensuring that the health care needs of Nevadans will be met when the exchanges begin operating in 2014,” Reid said in a statement. “I encourage the state to take advantage of the federal resources (Health and Human Services) is making available to Nevada.

Nevada has the option of creating its own exchange or partnering with other states to create a regional exchange.
