KLAS, 11/30/11 - Plans for a solar-powered residential complex at Nellis Air Force Base are drawing plaudits from Nevada Senator Harry Reid.
The new project that will install more than 4 megawatts of solar photovoltaic panels on 1,400 housing units at Nellis Air Force Base (AFB) and Naval Air Station (NAS) Fallon. The project, known as SolarStrong, is a privately-financed nationwide venture that will build more than $1 billion in solar projects on as many as 120,000 military housing communities. The project is expected to be the largest residential photovoltaic solar project in U.S. history.
“This project will allow Nellis and Fallon to meet more of its energy needs at a lower cost by harnessing Nevada’s abundant solar energy resources,” Reid said.
