New Solar Panel Facility Will Create 278 Jobs in Las Vegas
8 News Now, 7/20/10 - Renovation work on a new solar panel production plant will begin this year in North Las Vegas. It will mean millions of dollars for the city, county and state.
California-based Amonix, Inc. signed a lease agreement Tuesday morning to take over a building located at Pecos and Lone Mountain will employ 278 people for the manufacturing of solar power panels. Amonix, Inc. took advantage of the nearly $6 million tax credit in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
"The nation needs to add energy-generation assets, and solar has come down to a point in cost where it's starting to be competitive to fossil fuels, so there's right now great demand for solar energy, said CEO Brian Robertson, Amonix, Inc.
Management, technical and production jobs will be available. Most of the jobs will require minimal training for someone who previously worked in the construction industry.
