Lowden’s Campaign Chief: Everyone Has Health Care—Just Go To The ER

Talking Points Memo, 5/3/10 - As if Republican Sue Lowden's chicken-bartering health care plan wasn't bad enough, her campaign chief is now suggesting that everyone in Lowden's state already has health care -- in the emergency room.

Robert Uithoven, the campaign chief for Nevada Republican Senate candidate Sue Lowden, said on journalist Jon Ralston's TV show that if you have an emergency -- like, say, a bullet hole in your chest -- you already have taxpayer-funded health care.

Absolutely, they do," Uithoven said.

Gillan: If you can afford it they do.

Uithoven: They do. If I have a bullet hole in my chest, I can go down to UMC and I'm gonna get health care.

Gillan: And then taxpayers pay for that.

Uithoven: That's true.

As Greg Sargent points out: "UMC is the University Medical Center, the only publicly run hospital in Las Vegas."
