International Solar Power Companies Look to Nevada
KLAS, 11/1/11 - There's no shortage of sunlight in Nevada, and the goal is make money out of it. Solar plants have popped up in Boulder City and Primm, but the state is getting new attention from international companies who want to set up shop to leverage the sunshine.
Between current and slated projects, more than 6,000 acres of land will soon be providing power to Nevada and California using solar panels. Now companies in Asia are taking notice and wanting to invest.
"In an environment like Las Vegas and the Nevada desert, where you have such good solar installation, you can generate solar electricity at pretty much the same price you can at a gas-fired turbine plant," said Jonathan Pickering, president of J.A. Solar Americas.
