Elko Daily Free Press, 9/19/11 - U.S. Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., announced that three Elko County airports have received grants from the U.S. Department of Transportation for runway, taxiway and apron work.

Elko Regional Airport will receive $550,582; Jackpot/Hayden Field Airport will receive $318,250; and Wells Municipal/Harriet Field Airport will receive $273,053.

Las Vegas Sun, 9/13/11 - The Nuclear Regulatory Commission on Friday ordered an agency panel to shut down its review of the federal government’s request to turn Nevada into a high-level nuclear waste dump.

Citing budgetary issues, the commission told the Atomic Safety and Licensing Board to wrap up work by the end of the month on the Bush-era application to build the dump at Yucca Mountain, 90 miles northwest of Las Vegas. That’s good news for Nevada, which has diligently been working to kill the dangerous plans for more than two decades.

Las Vegas Sun, 8/28/11 - Nevada’s economy was hit particularly hard by the recession, and families across the state are still struggling to get back on their feet. We are making some progress but there is much left to be done.

LAS VEGAS – Today, long-time Republican State Senator Dean Rhoads’s letter endorsing Senator Harry Reid for reelection ran in the Elko Daily Free Press. Rhoads, a rancher, has served in the state Senate since 1985, and served in the Assembly from 1977 to 1981.

In a scathing critique of Sharron Angle’s qualification to represent Nevada in the US Senate, MGM Mirage CEO Jim Murren slammed the Republican nominee in an interview on CNBC this morning for having such “a lack of basic business understanding that that’s frightening to me.” Murren said Sen. Reid’s unique understanding and ability to deliver on behalf of Nevada’s top industry made him irreplaceable, noting that he’s “going to be a very worried executive” if Sharron Angle somehow manages to win.

Murren specifically praised Sen. Reid’s actions to save CityCenter – the largest construction project in North America – when it was on the verge of bankruptcy. Murren noted that Reid’s role as Majority Leader gives him a unique ability to get things done that no one else in the Nevada Congressional delegation can.
