National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare endorsement letter
Dear Senator Reid:
The National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, on behalf of its millions of members and supporters, enthusiastically endorses your re-election to the United States Senate.
Our nation needs your continued leadership, vision and determination to fight for working families and older Americans. The endorsement of the National Committee is based on your support and appreciation of the critical roles that Social Security and Medicare play in the retirement and health security of our nation’s older citizens and their families. Your record clearly demonstrates your commitment to protecting and improving Social Security and Medicare.
After successfully leading the opposition to the previous Administration’s Social Security privatization scheme, you understand that congressional efforts to privatize Social Security are re-emerging and that the Senate once again will have to stand as a bulwark against these threats to this uniquely successful social insurance program. Your Senate leadership on behalf of older Americans was evident, too, during this Congress and resulted in Health Care Reform that will close Medicare’s prescription drug “donut hole,” eliminate Medicare’s co-pays for preventive care, and extend Medicare’s financial viability. National Committee members are counting on your leadership to stop any movement in the next Congress to repeal this new law that is so crucial to the health of older Americans.
There is no membership in the nation more aware or active politically than the men and women who proudly are associated with the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare. National Committee members and supporters want you to continue protecting Social Security and Medicare—the twin pillars necessary to a good quality of life for Americans of all ages— in the United States Senate and National Committee members know they can count on you!
Sincerely,
Barbara B. Kennelly, President & CEO, Member, NCPSSM-PAC Board of Directors
