Health care reform will save Medicare $8 billion by 2012
You and I worked hard to pass comprehensive health reform. And, already, we're beginning to see the fruits of our labors.
A new report finds that reform will save $8 billion in Medicare by the end of 2011, and as much as $575 billion between now and 2020, extending the program's solvency by more than a decade. Meanwhile, these savings will help to bring down seniors' monthly premiums by nearly $200 a year by 2018.
This is why we fought so hard, overcoming obstacles that had stymied previous efforts at reform. We did what generations had failed to do, never giving up even when the road was rocky.
In the coming weeks and months, our opponents will continue to mislead and confuse Americans about the new health reform law. And if we let them win the argument -- and the fall elections -- they won't waste a moment before repealing the law and wiping out all its benefits, including these new protections for Medicare.
That's why passage of health reform can't be the end of our work, but rather the beginning. And that's why I'm so glad to have you standing in my corner for the fights ahead.
Thank you for all you do.
Sincerely,
--Harry
