After eight years of disastrous economic policies, Senator Reid and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act are working to turn things around in Nevada, already saving and creating thousands of jobs throughout the state. Of course, while there are signs for optimism, there is still much work to be done. Thousands of families continue to struggle to make ends meet after the financial crisis left them without a job and badly cut into their savings.

That’s why Senator Reid has been pushing back against Republican obstructionism and stall tactics to pass legislation extending relief to jobless workers and jumpstarting the economy by assisting new homebuyers and small businesses.

Since launching our online petition in support of health insurance reform with a public option on Tuesday, 40,000 Americans have added their names!

When Senator Reid calls and meets with his colleagues to convince them to support the bill he sent to the CBO Tuesday, including a public option, he wants to be able to tell them that it's not just him asking for their support - it's thousands of people from their state as well!

Last Friday, Vice President Joe Biden joined Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in Reno to address the need for continued action to turn the economy around and create good paying jobs in Nevada. One initiative that was highlighted as having a positive impact on millions of families throughout the state is the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

The vice president noted that the $1.5 billion investment, championed by Senator Reid, is working to bring much needed relief to hardworking Nevada families struggling to make ends meet. Already creating or saving over 6,000 jobs in the state, there was evidence at the event that the Recovery Act is having an effect.

With 2010 Elections just around the corner, it is time to start thinking about where we go from here. We should be proud of our accomplishments in 2008, but we need to build upon our successes last year. 2008 was an exciting and historic election year for many of us in Reno- and across the state- but our work isn’t over. We need health care reform now. We need careers in renewable energy now. We cannot allow ourselves to wait any longer while the other side works against us.

Saturday night Senator Reid delivered the keynote address to over 600 members of the Las Vegas chapter of Human Rights Campaign at their annual gala. Here are a few highlights from the evening:
