Women in Leadership
Sen. Reid has made it a priority to ensure women not only serve at the highest levels of government, but promote leadership skills among younger generations of women.
As Senate Majority Leader, Senator Reid led the confirmation of Associate Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. Additionally, he nominated the first woman to the Federal Bench of Nevada, Clark county Assistant District Attorney Johnnie B. Rawlinson. In 1998, she became the first woman and first minority member to be a federal judge in the state.
Sen. Reid has also worked hard to ensure young women can attain leadership position, securing $150,000 for UNLV’s Women’s Research Institute of Nevada and the National Education for Women’s Leadership Program.
