REID HAS A TRACK RECORD OF SUCCESS IMPROVING HEALTH SERVICES FOR AMERICA’S VETERANS

As Senator Reid works to enact health insurance reform that delivers quality, affordable healthcare for all Americans, he is continuing his efforts to improve health services for veterans. This year alone, Reid led the Senate to secure $5.6 billion, or an 11.7 percent increase, over last year’s funding levels to maintain the services that our nation’s brave men and women have come to rely on. In addition, he increased investments to research and treat mental health, post-traumatic stress disorder, and traumatic brain injury.

Senator Reid has worked to ensure that the VA Hospital system keeps up with the increasing number of veterans that are receiving treatment in Veterans Administration facilities, securing more than $600 million for a new VA hospital in Nevada that is to be completed by 2012. The Southern Nevada Health Care System Medical Center will have 90 beds for inpatient care, a center for ambulatory care, a nursing home care unit capable of serving 120 patients and space for the Veterans Benefits Administration offices.
