21st Century G.I. Bill

Ley Militar G.I. del Siglo XXI

REID LED THE SENATE IN PASSING A LANDMARK EXPANSION OF THE G.I. BILL OF RIGHTS

“Leading the effort to get the necessary votes on the bill, at a very difficult time, was our senior senator, Harry Reid. As Senate majority leader, he was able to twist enough arms to make passage of this bill possible in 2008, garnering an amazing 75 votes of 100 in a then-politically polarized Senate. Though everyone talks about his support for veterans, it is not often people put their money where their mouths are.” - VoteVets.org Nevada State Captain Elliot Anderson [Las Vegas Sun, 7/28/09]

As Majority Leader, Senator Reid made passage of the historic 21st Century G.I. Bill a top priority. This landmark legislation will offer new opportunities for hundreds of thousands of America’s men and women in uniform to receive a quality higher education that opens doors and provides new employment opportunities.

The new G.I. Bill offers troops and veterans serving at least three years in the military free tuition equivalent to the most expensive school in the state as well as a housing stipend. Furthermore, the legislation contains language that allows veterans to transfer their G.I. benefits to their spouses and children.

The 21st Century G.I. Bill gives Nevada’s veterans the assistance they need to readjust to civilian life and the education to get a leg up in the workplace. With thousands of Nevadans already back or on their way home from Iraq and Afghanistan, Senator Reid’s leadership passing this legislation was essential to ensuring that our country lives up to its obligations to its fighting men and women.
