The new project that will install more than 4 megawatts of solar photovoltaic panels on 1,400 housing units at Nellis Air Force Base (AFB) and Naval Air Station (NAS) Fallon. The project, known as SolarStrong, is a privately-financed nationwide venture that will build more than $1 billion in solar projects on as many as 120,000 military housing communities. The project is expected to be the largest residential photovoltaic solar project in U.S. history.

The bill would carve the Pine Forest Range Wilderness Area out of two federal Bureau of Land Management wilderness study areas, and release 1,500 acres of existing wilderness study area lands.

The Surface Transportation Board last week approved an exemption from federal regulations permitting DesertXpress Enterprises LLC to build a 190-mile high-speed passenger rail line between Las Vegas and Victorville, Calif. The board action was published today in the Federal Register.

“I’m pleased that the DesertXpress project is getting the green light to proceed, which will not only put tens of thousands of Nevadans to work, but ultimately bring more tourists to boost Nevada’s economy,” Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., said in a release applauding the approval.

Elko Regional Airport will receive $550,582; Jackpot/Hayden Field Airport will receive $318,250; and Wells Municipal/Harriet Field Airport will receive $273,053.

Citing budgetary issues, the commission told the Atomic Safety and Licensing Board to wrap up work by the end of the month on the Bush-era application to build the dump at Yucca Mountain, 90 miles northwest of Las Vegas. That’s good news for Nevada, which has diligently been working to kill the dangerous plans for more than two decades.

Tourism is an essential component of the state’s economic vitality and will remain so in the foreseeable future. The 35-foot buses will replace three diesel buses and will operate from the Riverwalk District downtown to the University of Nevada, Reno.

The project is aimed at relieving congestion on Interstate 515 heading towards the Hoover Dam.

Under the provision, Las Vegas' UMC will have 50 additional residency spots out of a 71 total designated for Nevada.
