Sharron Angle’s Extreme Hypocrisy in Dealing with Hispanic Nevadans
Sharron Angle is ducking and covering because her extreme and dangerous agenda is hostile to Hispanic Nevadans
LAS VEGAS – Ramping up a level of extreme hostility that began with a total blackout of Hispanic media, Sharron Angle continues to give the cold shoulder to Hispanic Nevadans, this time refusing admission of El Tiempo newspaper to a so-called Latina women’s event, and later refusing the reporter in attendance any comment whatsoever.
The extreme hostility towards Hispanic media began in August, as Sharron Angle was discussing changing the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution using loaded and xenophobic language like “anchor babies,” and the largest Latino media outlets in the state – Telemundo, Univision, El Tiempo, El Mundo and Prensa Latina – were all left to learn later they simply weren’t welcome at Angle’s events.
Yet despite Angle’s promise after that early-August debacle that she’d “be doing more outreach to both Spanish and English language media,” her blackout of the media outlets that represent 25 percent of our state’s population continues unabated.
As described in the sub-headline by El Tiempo: “This was yet another attempt by El Tiempo to reach out to Sharron Angle’s campaign, because they do not include us in their contact list, just as she does not include other Hispanic media.”
The reality is that Angle and her warring handlers do not want Hispanics to learn about her extreme and dangerous agenda, nor her rank hypocrisy on those issues, especially in areas that directly affect the Hispanic community.
In addition to excluding Hispanic media from her discussion of changing the 14th Amendment to eliminate birthright citizenship, Angle has also said recently she intends to air Spanish-language radio and television ads – an unbelievably hypocritical declaration from someone whose record includes a long history of promoting “English Only” policies, and who opposed allowing the printing of Spanish-language ballots for duly registered voters in Nevada.
“Sharron Angle’s extreme and dangerous agenda is something she desperately wants to hide from Hispanic Nevadans, which is why she refuses to even invite them to her events and then refuses to talk to them when they show up” said Reid campaign spokesman José Dante Parra. “Whether it's insulting hospitality workers saying they hold jobs that ‘real Americans’ don’t do, threatening to change the US Constitution, or airing Spanish-language ads to pander to a community to which she continues to be hostile, Angle’s hypocrisy and her xenophobic pandering seem to know no bounds.”
