Mayor Rusty Tybo Endorses Reid: “Now more than ever, we in Nevada need his leadership in Washington,
Wells Mayor says Reid “never more than a phone call away” and has “always put Nevadans as his first priority”
LAS VEGAS – Long-time Wells Mayor Rusty A. Tybo’s has authored an op-ed endorsing Senator Harry Reid for reelection in the Elko Daily Free Press. Tybo has served as Wells Mayor for more than two decades, and before that served on the Wells City Council. The Elko Daily Free Press also endorsed Senator Reid and published longtime State Senator Dean Rhoads' endorsement of Reid earlier this month.
Here is his endorsement in full:
Rusty A. Tybo
“It has been my honor over the last two decades to represent the people of Wells. My neighbors here have looked to me to help grow our economy, to strengthen services in our town, and to make sure that our dollars are wisely spent. Working together, we’ve been able to meet these goals. But we didn’t do it all on our own. When it mattered most, Senator Harry Reid was there to help.
“When Wells was hit with a major earthquake in early 2008, Senator Reid sent staff to help and delivered $600,000 to assist with repairs. We needed help, and Senator Reid came through in a big way.
“Reid has also been critical to getting major infrastructure projects started in our area. Anyone who works at a northern Nevada motel or restaurant can tell you about the positive impact that the construction of the Ruby Pipeline is having. Senator Reid was instrumental in cutting through the government red tape and delivering these jobs.
“You may have also heard about the major north-south powerline that is being built in eastern Nevada. LS Power and NV Energy, the two companies building the line, have made clear that this line is happening only because Senator Reid made it a priority. Thousands of jobs will result from this project alone.
“Another project that Reid brought home for our country is the California Trail Interpretive Center. This facility has helped put us on the map and will continue to bring visitors to our area for many years to come.
“But perhaps more important than any of this is Senator Reid’s work to protect the mining industry. Almost everyone in Wells depends on mining in some way.
“And if a recent gold discovery in the Pequop Mountains gets developed, Wells will be the homebase for one of the West’s biggest gold operations. Without Senator Reid, the future of the Pequop Mine and all of our other major mines could be in serious jeopardy.
“I have always felt that Senator Reid was only a phone call away and that he has always put Nevadans as his first priority. For these reasons, now more than ever, we in Nevada need his leadership in Washington, D.C.”
Republicans for Harry Reid numbers over 400 and includes notable Nevada Republican figures Republican strategist Sig Rogich, former Republican National Committee Chairman Frank J. Fahrenkopf, MGM Resorts International, CEO and Chairman Jim Murren, Former Nevada First Lady Dawn Gibbons, Former Nevada First Lady Dema Guinn Entertainer Wayne Newton, UNR Football Coach Chris Ault, Civil Rights Leader Robert Bailey, NV Energy President and CEO Michael Yackira, and Nevada Rangers President Joe Gill.
