Nevada To Receive $83M For New School Year

FOX 5, 8/31/10 - Nevada will receive $83.1 million from the federal government for the 2010-2011 school year, Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons and Sen. Harry Reid announced Monday.

The funding is part of the education-jobs bill that was signed into law Aug. 10 by President Barack Obama.

Sen. Harry Reid, who as senate majority leader led the passage of the bill, said he is pleased that the funds will protect teachers' jobs.

“Thanks to the timely application submitted by the state of Nevada, and (Education) Secretary (Arne) Duncan’s efforts to distribute these funds quickly, teachers and students can have the peace of mind and support they need to be successful in the classroom,” Reid said.

The funding is expected to allow for the creation of 1,400 teaching and teaching support jobs statewide this school year.
