Dear fellow Nevadans:
As members of Nevada’s community of healthcare professionals, we understand that our nation’s healthcare system is broken. That’s why we support Senator Reid’s efforts to reform our system by cutting costs, protecting patients’ choice of their doctors, and ensuring quality, affordable care for all Americans.
Throughout his career in public service, Senator Reid has shown extraordinary leadership increasing access to affordable health services: from expanding access to "Nevada Check Up" for thousands of NV children to preserving Medicare and ending the looming 10.6% Medicare physician pay cuts in 2008. His efforts are improving the delivery of medical care for all Nevada’s families. Senator Reid’s efforts to lead the fight for reform in the United States Senate health insurance debate is just the latest example of his dedication to this issue.
Working in the field, we know that doing nothing is not an option. The statistics speak for themselves. Maintaining the status quo would result in the uninsured rate to grow by more than 30 percent in 29 states and by at least 10 percent in every state by 2019. In Nevada alone, the number of uninsured could grow to as many at 808,000. Additionally, forty-four percent of residents have not had a colorectal cancer screening, while twenty-eight percent of women over 50 have not had a mammogram in the past two years.
This is not acceptable. And this is why we are standing behind Senator Reid as he continues to work toward common sense legislation.
As members of the Health Care Professionals for Harry Reid Committee, representing our state’s doctor, nursing, non-profit, and academic communities, we hope that you will lend your support to Senator Reid’s re-election campaign – so that he can continue to fight to ensure quality, affordable healthcare for all Americans.
Sincerely,
