1939 – Harry Mason Reid is born in Searchlight Nevada to Harry and Inez Reid. The son of a hard rock miner, Reid grew up in a cabin with no indoor toilet.

1957 – Reid graduates from Basic High School in Henderson NV. Reid would regularly hitchhike nearly 40 miles to attend high school.

1959 – Reid marries his high-school sweetheart, Landra Gould. Harry and Landra are still married today.

1961 – Reid graduates from Utah State University.

1961 – Reid starts working nights as a Capitol Police Officer to support his young family while he attends law school at George Washington University.

1964 – Reid graduates from law school and moves back to Nevada to raise his family.

1968 – Reid wins election to the Nevada State Assembly at the age of 28. He introduces the first air pollution legislation in Nevada history and fights to protect consumer rights.

1970 – Reid becomes the youngest Lt. Governor in Nevada history, winning election at age 30 as Governor Mike O'Callaghan’s running mate.

1977 – Reid is appointed Chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission, where for five years he makes headlines with his legendary fight to clean up Nevada’s gaming industry, despite repeated death threats from the mob.

1982 – Reid wins first of two terms in the U.S. House of Representatives where he championed the taxpayer bill of rights and legislation to protect Nevada’s wilderness.

1986 – Reid is elected to the U.S. Senate.

1992 – Reid is reelected to the U.S. Senate.

1998 – Reid is reelected to the U.S. Senate and chosen by his Senate colleagues to serve as Assistant Democratic Leader to Sen. Tom Daschle.

2004 – Reid is reelected to the U.S. Senate and chosen by his Senate colleagues to serve as Democratic Leader.

2007 – Sen. Reid becomes Senate Majority Leader after a unanimous vote by his Senate colleagues.
