Reno Gazette-Journal, 10/20/2011 — APAC Customer Services Inc. will hire 300 Nevadans for its call center, the company and U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., announced today.

The jobs are being transferred to the United States after being outsourced overseas. Nevada -- with the nation’s highest unemployment at 13.4 percent in August -- was chosen for its business friendly climate and a skilled workforce in customer service.

Las Vegas Sun, 02/24/2011 - It’s the type of small, family-run store that isn’t often seen today — all it sells is shoes, and mostly to senior citizens.

Cesar’s Shoe World hopes to benefit from a project to add bus lanes to Sahara Avenue that will also add sidewalks and landscaping to the busy corridor outside the store, but first it has to survive the construction.

“I think it’s the greatest thing that can happen in the city, however, it affects all the business people from Hualapai (Way) to Boulder Highway,” owner Cesar Galindo said. “Business is bad right now and with so much construction going on, it is going to affect us even more.”

Associated Press, 8/14/10 - With an installed capacity of a little more than 400 megawatts, Nevada's ability to take geothermal heat and turn it into electricity is second in the U.S. only to California.

In fact, if Nevada was a country, it would be the ninth-largest producer of geothermal energy in the world, just behind Japan, according to the Geothermal Energy Association.

My News 4, 7/23/10 - Nevada Senator Harry Reid announced Thursday the Senate Appropriations committee approved $295 million for Nevada as part of the Energy and Water Appropriations bill. A press release from Sen. Reid's office reports that the money will go toward clean energy, water, and national security projects in Nevada. The funding includes $2.5 million to shut down Yucca Mountain.

"Amonix offers the perfect example of how the Recovery Act is helping Nevada businesses and the clean energy industry expand and thrive," Reid says.  

Las Vegas Sun, 7/19/10 - North Las Vegas officials announced Monday that a new solar project will bring 278 jobs to the economically struggling city.

Amonix, a Califoria-based solar power company, announced in May that it would build a manufacturing plant in Southern Nevada. The company has chosen North Las Vegas as its location for the expansion, city officials said in a statement.
