Less than a week after she launched the first attack ad of the 2010 Senate campaign, news sources in Nevada and around the country have taken a look – and they see this ad for what it is: proof that Sue Lowden will say or do anything in this campaign -- no matter how shameless – to score political points. They confirm – time and again – that her ad is riddled with false attacks and ridiculous hyper-partisan rhetoric.

It’s no surprise though, given the fact that Sue Lowden has already been criticized for crossing the line in an earlier television ad where she attacked the late state Senator Jack Vergiels.

Sue Lowden released a new TV Ad titled “One Size Fits All”, where she uses falsehoods and distortions to undermine Sen. Reid’s hard work reforming our broken health insurance system to ensure quality, affordable medical care for all Nevadans.

I am honored to have this opportunity to congratulate you on receiving the “Man of the Year” award from the Sun City Anthem Democratic Club. It has been a privilege to work with you and to see firsthand your commitment to improving the lives of Nevadans and all Americans.

In just the past year, you have passed legislation to ensure equal pay for equal work, to bring health care to four million more children of needy families, to stop the predatory practices of credit card companies and to prevent tobacco companies from continuing to prey on our children. You passed a budget that made critical investments in our veterans, energy, education, and health care.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and his wife Landra attended Women for Reid Tea Event on Saturday at The Grove in South Reno. The event was hosted by women from across Northern Nevada, including Frankie Sue Del Papa, former Attorney General and Women for Harry Reid Co-Chair.

“All Nevadans, but especially women in Nevada, need Harry Reid fighting for them in the U.S. Senate,” explained Del Papa. “From leading the passage for the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act to providing funding for the fight against breast cancer and expanding health care coverage to children with SCHIP, Senator Reid delivers on our issues.”

This past week Senator Reid hosted Latino luncheon in both Las Vegas and Reno. These were excellent opportunities for community and national leaders to meet with Senator Reid to discuss the many important issues facing Nevada’s diverse Latino communities.

Senator Reid reiterated that his number one priority is creating good paying jobs and turning Nevada’s economy around. He knows that the economic crisis has hit Nevada’s Latino families particularly hard.

Over 500 people attended Senator Reid's Reno Volunteer Appreciation luncheon for his campaign this weekend. Volunteers are already hard at work pounding the pavement, hosting house parties and phone banking for Senator Reid's re-election efforts.

This was an extraordinary show of support and energy with the election more than 8 months away!

Today, Sen. Reid led the Senate to break a Republican filibuster on the new Jobs Bill that will put Nevadans back to work!

Sen. Reid worked tirelessly to secure bipartisan support for this legislation that gives Nevada’s small businesses the resources and support they need to begin hiring again!

With this major hurdle cleared, the bill could be passed by the Senate as early as Wednesday!

As I discussed in my message yesterday, job creation must be our top priority in Nevada. However, we can't expect to turn our economy around without addressing Nevada's foreclosure crisis.

And it is a crisis.

Right now, thousands of Nevada families are in danger of losing their homes, struggling desperately to keep their heads above water, and calling out for help. I want all Nevada homeowners to know, I hear those calls -- and I've been working with President Obama to tackle this crisis head on.

When our economy narrowly avoided a catastrophic depression, I began working with President Obama to stop the bleeding and get things moving in the right direction. We've seen evidence of a recovery over the last year, but I know that we need to do more to create and save jobs. And so for the rest of this Congress and for as long as it takes, I plan on introducing legislation specifically crafted to build on the success of the Recovery Act. I got started last week by introducing a bill that's going to save and create jobs, plain and simple.

Yesterday marked the one year anniversary of the passage of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, and it's clear that the projects being funded have helped and are going to continue to help Nevada weather this recession. Whether they say it to the media or not is one thing, but the fact is that both Republicans and Democrats have asked for and welcomed Recovery Act funds to their home states and districts. I know it's done some good in Nevada so far -- funding renewable energy projects, helping struggling families afford to keep their health insurance, and easing the burden on small businesses so they can get back to hiring people.

Today, the Las Vegas Review Journal released a poll showing that Sen. Harry Reid is Nevada’s business community’s favorite in the November 2010 elections, besting potential opponent Sue Lowden by an eye popping 50 percentage points.

Sen. Reid’s strong support should come as no surprise, as he has made Nevada’s business community a top priority.

Sue Lowden likes to brag that neither she nor her companies have taken any bailout funds. In truth, Lowden until very recently served a member of Colonial Bank’s Nevada Board of Directors, and Colonial did in fact apply for and was given approval to receive funds under the Troubled Asset Relief Program, a program which she defended, saying it would be hard to vote against. After applying for federal bailout funds, Colonial Bank came under investigation by the FBI for suspect accounting and possible mortgage-related criminal violations tied to their application for TARP funding. The bank has since been seized and sold off during the course of the investigation, marking the largest bank failure of 2009.

This week, Sue Lowden released what she claims to be a “plan” for economic recovery that is chock full of half-truths, ridiculous claims and false attacks that offer nothing more than undeniable proof that she is willing to turn a blind eye to any fact that doesn’t fit the narrative of her campaign.

The reality is that Harry Reid is working harder than ever, leveraging his clout as Senate Majority Leader, to help lift Nevada’s economy out of this recession. Whether it’s passing more than a trillion dollars in tax relief, working to relieve Nevada’s housing crisis or fighting for Nevada’s industries and putting Nevadans back to work, Harry Reid is fighting for Nevada’s families and businesses. And he’s delivering.

After many months of hard work, this morning the Senate passed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

I can't help but think how appropriate it is that we have accomplished this amid the holiday season - a time we join together with our loved ones to celebrate our families, our friends, our children and grandchildren.

This bill embodies that spirit - care for one another.

Because of this historic legislation, next holiday season 518,000 of our state's uninsured will have access to stable, affordable coverage. And 300,000 Silver State residents and 24,000 small businesses will know that tax credits to lower premiums are right around the corner.

While we are well on our way to achieving fiscally responsible health insurance reform that cuts costs, protects patients’ choice of their doctors, and ensures quality, affordable healthcare for all Americans, there are still a number of steps that Senator Reid and the Senate must take before we can really begin to celebrate.
