Latino Luncheons in Las Vegas and Reno a Success
This past week Senator Reid hosted Latino luncheon in both Las Vegas and Reno. These were excellent opportunities for community and national leaders to meet with Senator Reid to discuss the many important issues facing Nevada’s diverse Latino communities.
Senator Reid reiterated that his number one priority is creating good paying jobs and turning Nevada’s economy around. He knows that the economic crisis has hit Nevada’s Latino families particularly hard.
He is also committed to passing comprehensive immigration reform that strengthens our immigration laws and secures the border while providing undocumented workers the opportunity to come out of the shadows, get right with the law and earn legal citizenship. Hard-working legal immigrants are a vital part of Nevada’s economy, and comprehensive immigration reform will help our economy recover and stay strong.
Finally, Sen. Reid discussed the importance of the Dream Act, which ensures that young people brought to America through no fault of their own have a chance to legalize their immigration status, go to college and make a better life for themselves. If you were brought to this country as a child, have stayed in school and out of trouble, Senator Reid believes you should have the same shot at the American Dream as any other child.
