Working to Ensure All Nevadans Can Achieve the American Dream

Senator Reid is committed to ensuring all Americans – regardless of their background – have the opportunity to get a college education and pursue the American Dream. He led the charge to pass the College Cost Reduction Act, the largest expansion of college aid since the GI Bill. This bipartisan legislation is dramatically increasing grants to students and lowering interest rates on federally- subsidized loans for low-income students.

He also passed the Recovery Act, which increased Pell Grant awards to help millions of students go to college and a new tax credit that will help hardworking families with the burden of rising college tuition. This credit, known as the American Opportunity Tax Credit provides up to $2,500 for college tuition and other expenses – so important for students trying to improve their earning potential and career competitiveness.
