KRNV, 1/20/12 - Nevada Senator Harry Reid today announced a $688,256 grant for safety measures that will keep Nevada highways safe for drivers and passengers. The grants will be used by the Nevada Department of Public Safety’s Office of Traffic Safety to address problem areas throughout the state identified by the Nevada Department of Transportation.
“Nevadans rely on our state’s roads every day, and I’m pleased that this grant will support our highways to keep travelers safe,” Reid said. “Our state’s economy is dependent on reliable means of transportation, which makes these resources crucial to the well-being of all Nevadans.”
Nevada Appeal, 1/8/12 - Nevadans may remember hearing about a young Henderson girl who suffered mightily from simply eating her vegetables. When she was 9 years old, Rylee Gustafson ate raw spinach salad that made her so sick that she spent months in the hospital, and the effects of her E. coli food poisoning linger.
Rylee wasn't the only Nevadan to suffer from life-threatening food poisoning, but her story serves as a stark reminder of why food safety laws should have been updated a long time ago. Because of her and others, I worked hard to make that happen.
KRNV, 1/5/12 - Nevada Senator Harry Reid today announced two grants totaling $460,412 to fight fires in Northern Nevada. The Sparks Fire Department will receive a $403,792 grant and the Mason Valley Fire Protection District will get $56,620 to support operations and to improve safety.
The grants will go towards purchasing much-needed emergency response equipment, personal protective equipment, firefighting and emergency vehicles, and training.
